April 21, 2008 (Tokyo, Japan)—Acrodea, Inc. (CEO and President: Junya Tsutsumi), headquartered in Meguro-ku, Tokyo, announced today a three-party basic accord reached with GMO Internet, Inc. (Representative Director and CEO: Masatoshi Kumagai), and GMO System Consulting, Inc. (President and CEO: Hideo Itoyama), belonging to the GMO Intenet Group, regarding the business and equity alliance between Acrodea and GMO Digital Contents Distribution, Inc. (President: Naoto Hattori), newly spun off and established effective today.
Since establishment in April 2000, GMO System Consulting has engaged in contracted development work for Web-based systems as its core business. Beginning in the summer of 2005, the company launched its digital content distribution ASP business “Digital Content King” on the back of its own systems development capacity, and has since developed its service provider business.
As a mechanism that can facilitate downloads of content files at virtually any website, the digital content distribution ASP business “Digital Content King” has grown into a distribution platform engaged with around 70 content provider websites handling over 10,000 files. Eyeing market expansion in the distribution of digital content over the Internet and highly promising commercial prospects, the parties decided to establish a subsidiary for the ASP business.
Alongside its main digital content distribution ASP business “Digital Content King,” newly established subsidiary GMO Digital Contents Distribution will provide system services necessary for content distribution on the Internet. Today’s announcement also extends to the basic accord reached between Acrodea, GMO Internet, and GMO System Consulting regarding the business and equity alliance between Acrodea, who, as provider of the VIVID UI series embedded software that delivers user interfaces for mobile telephones, is the technology partner that will deliver mobile compatibility for the ASP “Digital Content King” currently serving PC clients, and GMO Digital Contents Distribution.
