March 13, 2008 (Tokyo, Japan)—Acrodea, Inc. (CEO and President: Junya Tsutsumi), headquartered in Meguro-ku, Tokyo, announces the adoption of its 3D rendering technology from VIVID UI (user interface platform for mobile handsets) for the FULLFACE 2 SoftBank 921SH handset (made by Sharp), recently announced by SoftBank Mobile Communications as a new handset for Spring 2008.
The FULLFACE 2 SoftBank 921SH (made by Sharp) announced at this time is a “full slider” handset with a new feel that involves tapping, tracing, and shaking for operations. For the operating mode while the slide is retracted, the handset has adopted a “touch legato” sensor for direct fingertip contact to enable a new style of operation. Three basic actions of tapping, long pressing, and tracing provide smooth access to digital terrestrial “one segment” TV, PC websites, email, and the digital camera, all without extending the slider.
The additionally installed motion control sensor can detect the tilt and movement of the handset itself for a high degree of freedom in operating the handset according to the screen’s orientation. Shaking the handset can launch the camera or digital TV. All of these features are compatible with technology provided by Acrodea for menus built with 3D graphics and for transition effects inserted between menu screen changes, and deliver pleasing operations through new sensations in combination with the two sensors.
Acrodea intends to deliver UI technologies that enable more entertaining and more convenient operations for functions and access to services in the form of intuitive user interfaces.
VIVID UI is a user interface platform developed by Acrodea for mobile phones, and represents innovative middleware that can integrate various types of multimedia content, such as still pictures, 3D graphics, animation effects, and video. VIVID UI enables mobile phones that can be readily customized with graphically enhanced menus and standby screens. The VIVID UI authoring tool incorporates features for creating menu transitions through a visual context, as well as for menu content emulation. By using this tool, handset manufacturers and content providers can easily create compatible content with a wealth of expression.
