February 8th, 2008 (Tokyo, Japan)—Acrodea, Inc. (CEO and President: Junya Tsutsumi), headquartered in Meguro-ku, Tokyo, announced the porting of the OpenKODE™ solution developed by the company to the Mobile Station Modem™ (MSM™) chipsets and BREW platform environment supplied globally by Qualcomm, Incorporated (CEO: Paul E. Jacobs, Nasdaq: QCOM), headquartered in San Diego, California, U.S.A.
Devised by the standards body Khronos Group, OpenKODE comprises an application programming interface (API) set for furnishing media functions to embedded devices, such as mobile telephones. The API specification enables multimedia functions, such as graphics, video, and audio to be executable under different hardware and OS environments. The availability of an OpenKODE execution environment can enable the same middleware and application software to operate across different platforms. In addition, an eco system can emerge to reduce development cycles and costs, to assure contiguous operation, and to safeguard software assets.
As a core member of the OpenKODE project promoted by Khronos Group, Acrodea is actively participating in the development and evangelism, and has released the world’s first OpenKODE 1.0 API implementation library compatible with the OpenKODE 1.0 specifications.
For the reference system commanding an MSM chipset and the BREW environment supplied on this occasion by Qualcomm, Acrodea installs the OpenKODE 1.0 API implementation library. Consequently, middleware and application software developed outside the BREW platform gain enhanced portability. Acrodea intends to move ahead with compatibility for Qualcomm’s latest MSM chipset and BREW 4.0.
